KCS High School
Kalamazoo Christian High School offers a liberal arts education that equips, inspires, and challenges students to discover and develop their personal strengths for lifelong success and service to God. The mentoring relationships with high school faculty, coupled with the curriculum produce graduates who are prepared to be disciples transforming the world.
KCHS currently enrolls 300 students and is located at our Stadium Drive Campus. Over half of our staff members hold advanced degrees and the average class size is 22 students.
Our students regularly achieve higher-than-average MME and ACT scores, with 95% of seniors advancing to college after graduation.
KCHS has been accredited by The North Central Association of Secondary Schools since 1989. In addition, we have been honored as an “Exemplary School” in the U.S.D.O.E Exemplary School National Recognition Program.
The ultimate goal of the KCS education is that students graduate spiritually, socially, intellectually, and physically equipped to transform the world around them. To attain this goal we carefully select and develop curricula which provide a comprehensive education, allowing our graduates to enter the workforce or continue their education in institutions of higher learning with a sense of calling and purpose.
Our Programs
Through thoughtful discussions about issues of faith and practice, students are challenged to learn and defend new concepts and viewpoints. KCHS graduates will be prepared for college-level learning or the workforce as well as spiritual development to stand on in the future.
When students in Spanish Immersion graduate eighth grade, they are dual-enrolled through KCHS and Western Michigan University to earn a minor in Spanish from WMU.
All KCHS students have the opportunity for dual-enrollment through KCHS partnership with Education for the Arts, Education for Employment, Kalamazoo Valley Community College, or Western Michigan University. Some popular dual-enrollment course include, comic book art, fiction writing, and welding.
Guidance
High school guidance is available to all KCHS students. Our goal is that each student is comfortable coming into our guidance office with any number of issues. The guidance center is meant to provide a sanctuary to students in difficult or high-stress times. Crisis intervention and personal counseling are provided as well as referrals to private counseling services.
The guidance center also exists to provide academic support and help students plan for their future. We can provide standardized testing services to assist students in evaluating their abilities and prepare for college or the workforce. All sophomores will take the PLAN test, which provides them with benchmarks and projected ACT score range. It also includes a career interest inventory. Juniors (and Sophomores with a 3.5> GPA) are invited to take the PSAT test which serves as the entrance exam for the National Merit Scholarship Competition. All Juniors will take the Michigan Merit Exam, which includes the ACT test.
