Middle School
Kalamazoo Christian Middle School is a time of great physical, emotional, mental and social growth for students.
Students engage with different teachers for each subject area, who carry expertise for that subject matter.
Students are introduced to opportunities such as break time, learning an instrument and field trips like 5th Grade science camp.
A Kalamazoo Christian Education
At Kalamazoo Christian, your child(ren) will be educated with an excellent curriculum, integrated with Christian perspectives and practices.
Academically Excellent
In order to strive for academic excellence, teachers provide academic challenge through interactive and group activities, projects, lecture and discussion. The focus in middle school is on more complex skill development and depth of content knowledge in each subject area.
Undeniably Christian
In middle school, teachers challenge students to reflect on their faith and to study textbooks, novels and other readings with critical thinking and Christian perspective. Students are given opportunities to begin to make their faith in God more personal with time for devotions and Bible reading individually and in small groups. On Fridays, students participate in Community Worship in the gym or in Community Groups.
Core Classes
Core classes, which are taught by a teacher who specializes in that area, provide a daily foundation for learning.
Students study U.S. and World History with a focus on Biblical integration and caring for the people of our world.
Students study many topics related to biology, chemistry and earth science with opportunities to dissect plants and animals, work with local DNR, participate in labs and explain their learning.
Students study the Bible, both stories and themes, through the lenses of head, heart, and hands. They memorize scripture, reflect on their relationships with God and others and participate in service opportunities. Through Biblical mentorship, students can connect their faith to their studies and the world around them.
Middle School Sports
Enrichment - Encores
Encores offer an opportunity for enrichment that compliment core classes in the middle school curriculum. Students are enrolled in some encores automatically in an effort to shape well-rounded students. Other subjects can be added based on student interest.

The Media Center also hosts clubs like Ravenous Readers, Bring It On Book Challenge, Lego Club and Math Club.

Students in the English program have a Spanish course focused on building conversations, grammar skills and useful vocabulary. Students in Culture class dive deeper into the concept of culture and cultural impact on the way we think and act, as well as learning more about Spanish-speaking countries and their cultures around the world.
Outdoor Education
In the fall and spring, students get to work in the flower gardens, helping with live animals on campus, constructing projects, planting trees and pollinator plants for the beehives, composting and recycling. In the winter, students participate in Project Lead the Way STEM activities and apply their design skills to their outdoor projects.
Technology
Students are each issued a Chromebook that they are responsible for bringing to classes charged and ready for learning. Students develop technology skills such as typing, internet and email etiquette, coding and computer literacy. 3D printing is a fun hands on opportunity that students have in middle school.
Exploratory Week
For a week in the spring, students choose two areas to learn more about during Exploratory Week. Our middle school teachers host sessions on cooking, baking, woodworking, pickleball, tennis, origami, calligraphy, stained glass, journaling, card games, faith and film, taekwondo, bowling, roller skating, print and paper making, storytelling, photography and more.
Middle schoolers attend regular classes for half of the day and then the session(s) of their choice for the other half of the day.
Exploratory Week allows out students to become well-rounded learners, passionate about a skill they may already have or one they want to develop. It is also a great way for students to interact with teachers and students outside of their schedule.
